Parlor Doughnuts: A review

Have you heard about the new pastry and cafe spot in St. Lucie West?

Key takeaways

  • A warm, parlor-style interior invites you to linger rather than grab and go.

  • Signature layered doughnuts feature a crunchy top and croissant-like interior with perfectly balanced sweetness.

  • High-quality coffee—espresso, cortado, and iced caramel latte—stands on its own.

If you haven’t heard about Parlor Doughnuts yet, you haven’t been scrolling the local Facebook groups. It’s the talk of Port St. Lucie—and once you step inside, it’s easy to see why.

When you enter the shop, the space feels welcoming—almost nostalgic. Warm lights hang from the ceiling, paired with clean white walls. Braided leather stools and patterned tile floors add creative flair. People line up quietly at the counter, waiting for their coffee and their chance to choose doughnuts from the glass display.

After picking out your doughnuts, coffee, and other treats, you think you know what’s coming. Then you pull apart your first doughnut, and it’s an entirely different experience.

The doughnuts

The “layered doughnuts” surprise you when you tug on them. The top of the pastry has a satisfying crunch, and the interior is a perfect cross between a sourdough loaf and a buttery croissant. There’s a flavor for everyone. On our first visits, my family and I tried:

  • Maple pecan

  • Bourbon caramel

  • Coconut cream–filled

  • Raspberry pistachio

  • Lemon bar

My favorites were the maple and bourbon. They’re sweet—they are desserts, after all—but never cloyingly so like some regional spots. For the first time, I actually savored the dough itself before the glaze or filling. These pastries are generously sized; share one over a coffee, and it’ll feel just right.

The coffee

I’m picky about coffee—I take my espresso straight, no sugar; it’s my test, since bad coffee can’t hide behind it. But for breakfast, I stepped out of my routine and ordered a cortado. My wife tried an iced caramel latte. Both drinks impressed. Honestly, I’d return just for the coffee.

The lounge

The space surprised me most of all. I expected a grab-and-go donut shop: you walk in, order at a cramped counter, and leave. Not here.

The lounge is spacious and inviting—you actually want to linger. The “parlor,” as described on the business’s website, is a callback to early American homes where friends and family gathered in a special room to share stories and catch up.

During our visit, we ran into two families we know and shared light conversation over our orders. Parlor Doughnuts truly captures the nostalgia of a community gathering spot. Next time, I’ll catch up on email over coffee—and maybe try one of their sandwiches.

What I’m looking forward to

On our midweek visit, the line was short. But by Sunday morning, it wrapped around the lounge, weaving between couches and tables. I noticed they have a mobile app—one advantage of having the resources of a franchise—and thought I’d skip the queue.

Turns out mobile ordering isn’t live here yet (or when I tried to use it). My guess: the new team is still mastering the rush. I’m hopeful they’ll enable it soon so I can grab my coffee and pastries even faster. That said, the busy line still moved quickly.

If you haven’t checked out this new doughnut café, do yourself a favor and go. Snap some photos, savor the flavors, and spread the word!
